Our Law Office's Involvement with Rutgers University and Resources/Advice for Students

The Law Offices of Eric. B. Morrell would like to give a warm welcome to returning/new Rutgers students and parents for the fall semester of 2023. Over the years, our offices have taken a lot of pride in giving back to the Rutgers community, through providing career opportunities to Rutgers students, giving seminars to numerous Greek organizations (e.g. Phi Kappa Psi and Sigma Chi), and attending Rutgers sporting events. We also take pride in representing Rutgers students who are facing legal issues at the Rutgers community.

Living at college is one of the most exciting, unpredictable parts of one’s life. Rutgers is one of the largest diverse universities in the country that offers hundreds of opportunities for students to get involved. Eric B. Morrell is committed to enhancing these opportunities, as he often employs Rutgers students to work in the law office. Moreover, Eric. B. Morrell is consistent with his involvement in the Rutgers community. For example, he is a strong advocate for Greek life. Eric served as a volunteer for the formerly recognized Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity, working with the executive board to improve chapter operations. Eric continues to conduct seminars, such as his
Dress for Success seminar which focuses on the importance of dressing properly for professional interviews, to several Greek organizations around campus. With this experience, Eric B. Morrell is well aware of the issues that Rutgers students face each year.

Our office also attends a variety of sporting events throughout the school year. This upcoming 2023 football season, the law office plans on hosting a tailgate for his mens club. Moreover, Eric attends and follows other sports events, such as basketball games and baseball games.

Students returning to the school may face unbeknownst challenges that come with living on their own. We encourage parents to regularly check in with their children, especially in the first few weeks of school. Rutgers University offers comprehensive services for those who struggle with mental health, substance abuse, or other similar issues through a program called CAPS (Counseling, Alcohol, and other Drug Assistance Program, Psychiatric Services). This program is conducted by a team of healthcare professionals that help students that requested a consultation. Rutgers University policy restricts alcohol, tobacco, and other controlled substances, even if some are permissible under state law. One bold example of this is recreation and medicinal cannabis. Although state laws approved for recreational use in New Jersey (individuals 21+ can carry up to six ounces of marijuana and purchase it from authorized retailers or dispensaries), Rutgers has the right to enforce its own rules on campus. These restrictions are applicable in all campus settings including dorms and sidewalks.

Although most students come to college with the intention of having a smooth year, interactions with the legal system are unfortunately not uncommon. Those who fall into these interactions deserve proper legal representation to navigate the court system and receive the best possible outcome. Eric B. Morrell has maintained strong relationships with the Rutgers community for over twenty five years and has extensive experience representing Rutgers students in the county and municipal courts. Our law offices are only a short walk from the Rutgers New Brunswick campus, and we offer a range of helpful resources to our clients. The Law Offices of Eric B. Morrell will have employees attending the Rutgers Involvement Fair on September 4th, so be on the lookout for our giveaways. Look out for our billboard too!
